So why not blog about it? Seriously. Five (or seven) days a week, I’m a creative producer for a major radio station. There’s the radio stations for which I produce freelance. I’m also a musician: I compose for film and TV. Sure, I dip into other programs occasionally for here-and-there tasks, but I’m always back in Audition mixing and mastering. And don’t even get me started on the countless hours I spend fine tuning my remixes. (That’s a great way to get rid of company, by the way. Just playing the same 4 measures over and over for an hour, only making minor changes across your 16 automation lanes. “Do you like it better with the low pass filter on the last two eighth notes?”)
I even carry Audition on my laptop when I travel so that I can do all of this…WHILE ON VACATION. Some kind of freak, I’m telling you. My family has no idea what to make of me most of the time.
I work, play, and live Audition literally every day of my life. I spend more time editing audio than most people do sleeping. I’m sitting in front of Audition 3.0 running on a dual widescreen monitor system even as we speak. With this blog, it’s my intent to share my techniques and knowledge. And, with any luck, answer questions and open up a means for people to learn and collaborate. This is going to be a very serious under-taking for me. I’ll be posting audio (examples, podcasts, etc), tutorials with extensive screen shots, and long (and comically boring) explanations of the “science” of digital audio in general.
Whether you’re learning the software, or just want a place to learn a new trick every now and then, let me personally welcome you. Right off the bat, if you want me to answer a question about Adobe Audition for you, hit the “write in” link at the top of this (and every) page.
A special thanks to Hart Shafer and the powers-that-be at Adobe. When I approached them about this idea, they went beyond a simple permission slip and actually encouraged this experiment. Yes, folks! We’re doing this with their blessing. (Seems like they “get” the needs and habits of Audition nerds like you and me.)
The name of the blog, by the way, comes from the command set in Audition (”Noise” under the “Generate” menu). I used to see what sorts of obnoxious combinations of noise I could generate to bewilder and confuse my cat (left). That’s just as artistic as any radio promo I’ve ever done! Generating noise artfully is what us editors do, after all.
This is going to be a fun ride!
(Editor’s Note: Audition is really only technically “my life” if you rule out my odd, pointless encyclopedic knowledge of the Saw movie franchise. That being said…Audition is a close second.)

March 06, 02008 (3:02 pm) 1Thanks for starting this blog. I’m finding Audition to be a very powerful, but inscrutable piece of software. I’ll look forward to your Audition tips, suggestions, and hints, and I may hit you up for some answers every now and then.
